We would like to provide information about Suica IC cards for customers who frequently use trains.

Currently, Suica cards for visiting foreign tourists are available in Japan.

🟩Standard Suica: Sales Locations
Available at the following JR stations in Tokyo.

  • Tokyo Station
  • Shinagawa Station
  • Shibuya Station
  • Shinjuku Station
  • Ikebukuro Station
  • Ueno Station

● Purchase price: 1,000 to 2,000 yen, charge-only (electronic IC card).
● We recommend charging only the necessary amount to avoid having a remaining balance.

Reason.
Refunds for remaining balances are only available at JR [Midori no Madoguchi] (ticket offices).
While these are available at Ikebukuro, Ueno, and Tokyo stations, the number of these offices is currently being reduced.
Therefore, refunds cannot be made at all JR stations.

When requesting a refund for the remaining balance, the return of the card is not necessary.
You may keep the card as a souvenir when returning home.

Therefore, we recommend charging only the necessary amount in advance. This way, you can use up the charged amount without paying the refund fee.

Where Suica can be used.

  • Trains, subways, and buses
    Please note that in some cases it may not be usable, so it is recommended to confirm with station staff or bus drivers in advance.
    When traveling from eastern Japan (Tokyo area) to western Japan (Osaka, Kyoto, etc.), there may be instances where it cannot be used.
  • Stores with a Suica mark at the register
  • Most convenience stores for shopping
  • Vending machines (in the city and on trains) for purchasing food and drinks

Typical Charge Locations.

  1. Most convenience stores (with a Suica mark at the register)
  2. Ticket vending machines at stations
  3. It is often not possible to charge on buses or trains, so the above options are the standard places for charging.

Even when traveling to western Japan, you can use Suica at convenience stores and stations with a Suica mark.
However, please note that Suica cannot be used on some trains when traveling from eastern to western Japan.

How to Refund the Remaining Balance.

  • Refund fee: Total of 720 yen (220 yen handling fee + 500 yen deposit)
  • Refunds can only be made at JR stations with a Midori no Madoguchi if there is a significant remaining balance.
  • If you inform us in advance, our hotel can check if there are any Midori no Madoguchi ticket offices at your destination.
  • The return of the card is not necessary when requesting a refund.
  • You may keep the card as a souvenir when returning home.
